Peace Corps Invite!!!!!!!!!

This is what WE (and many of YOU) have all been waiting for! 13 months after applying and even a few weeks after we were originally supposed to depart, we received our Peace Corps invitation. Even though we’ve known it was coming for the past week, it arrived at the door- not the mailbox- so it was definitely a suprise. We had also been clued in to the general region where we’d likely be placed (although we were warned that the program had not made it through final approval yet- and with all the budget cuts going on, we tried not to get our hopes up), but the country we’re assigned was also surprising! Since we’ve been doing a lot of house-sitting lately, the invite came to my (Michelle’s) parents’ house while Jedd was still in Portland for work so that’s why you’ll see Jedd on Skype in the video.Β  You’ll just have to watch it to see where we’re going to end up…

  1. Hey Jedd, that is so exciting! Congrats on Jamaica my friend! If you need an in country resource, my buddy Raz who I worked with at UW is serving there now. He just completed 2 years, but extended a bit (he actually changed countries, very dramatic story). His very excellent blog is here – http://fullandbye.wordpress.com/ and I am happy to introduce you guys. He is a very cool person and would love to provide all sorts of advice, I’m sure.

    Peace,
    Shella

    1. Thanks Shella. Michelle has actually been reading Raz’s blog. As always, thanks for the support. You have always inspired me. πŸ™‚

    2. Jedd’s right, I have been perusing the current volunteers’ blogs and came across Raz’s. Do you know if he’ll be back before we leave in March?

    1. Thanks Jeff. Look for more ridiculous videos to come with me spouting ridiculous facts and other random stuff…

  2. Oh my! So exciting. It is so strange to hear you are going to be gone from us until 2014! BUT very happy and excited for you both. This assignment means we will have an easier time visiting you as well so that’s good news. Michelle- your Cool Runnings jamican accent will probably get you in good with the locals. Who would have thunk it?

    1. Means we just have to hang out more while we are here, or you will just have to visit us. We are up for both.

  3. Congrats! I have been following your “waiting” process. You guys have been so patient. I went to Jamaica on a missions trip in high school. I loved it. It will be such an adventure. Blessings.

  4. Great! We’re happy that you finally get to start your Peace Corps journey. Myron, Lauren and I watched your video together in Hilo. Interesting to hear that Jedd will be teaching life skills — wonder what he’ll learn? Looking forward to following your journey with your cool videos!

  5. Fabulous news! So excited for you guys. This will be a fantastic time in your life, full of growth, learning and and hopefully a sense of accomplishment. You are such a giving couple, Jamaica is lucky to get you!

  6. You’re mission starts on PI Day!! (March 14th), so excited for you two, I’m sure this has been such a learning and growing process for you. hugs πŸ™‚

    1. I’ll admit, I had to use google to make sure I knew what PI day was :). Hope we can connect with you and Joel before we take off. Thanks.

  7. Yay!!! We are excited that there is finally an answer πŸ™‚ We may have to arrange a visit while you’re there since we haven’t been to the Caribbeans.
